Couture Coming to Comic Con

Comic Con Couture

We’ve seen cosplay contests and the masquerade ball, but this year will unleash a venue for fashion designers.  Yes, I said fashion designers are San Diego Comic Con. Her Universe is looking for fashion designers to submit up to 3 designs (not costumes) to be selected as one of 30 finalists for The Her Universe Fashion Show. If you’re attending Comic Con and curious or a designer wanting to see what the hottest Nerd Couture is, it will be held July 24th, 2014 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, CA.

“WHAT DO THE WINNERS RECEIVE? The two winners will be invited to be a guest designer with Her Universe to develop a fashion collection (2-5 pieces) to be sold at Hot Topic. The two winning designers will receive payment for this work.”

It should be noted, that Her Universe is doing this in conjunction with Nerdist Industries.  So I’m guessing Chris Hardwick is involved in here somewhere.  But, what’s the harm in adding more things that people geek out over to what is already the geekiest-fest in the world?  The designs are female only, but male or female designers may submit entries. Entries need to be submitted by April 4th.

I approve of anything that pulls people away from the main panels, so let’s do it! There are some crazy good costume makers out there, so this could be a fun opportunity that maybe they never considered.

Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
