Get Comic-Con FIT in 3 Weeks!

Comic-Con-Fit

Here’s a Comic Con tip for you: It’s time to get Comic-Con FIT!

If you’re one of the lucky ducks heading to San Diego Comic-Con 2015 in 23 days and you’ve never been, you’re going to be in for a surprise. The SDCC experience WILL include a LOT of walking. If you’re into step-tracking, check out my pedometer log from 2014:

SDCC-2014-Steps

My small walking day, Thursday, is the day I ONLY walked 9,938 steps because I sat in Hall H all day long. To give you a bit of perspective – The same days leading up to 2014’s convention, I only “walked” 20 miles in the same amount of time and that INCLUDED 4 workout days. That means SDCC doubled my workout distance last year.

That being said, I don’t know about you, but I fell off the wagon a bit this year in terms of working out and I am not Comic-Con ready right now. So to kick things off, may I introduce the WEEK 1 PLAN of our new 3 week Comic-Con training program:

(When you see KICK IT UP, that step is optional. It can be added if you want to increase the challenge)

(We are not fitness professionals. Please read the disclaimer at the bottom of this page)

Week-1

HawkeyeDAY 1 – Hawkeye

Today’s workout is dedicated to Hawkeye. Why? Because he pays great attention to details. You’ll need to analyze while you go what level you should be working out at and adjust accordingly. Also pay attention to the things around you as you go, you’ve got this!

Self-Test
Verify ability to walk 15 minutes without heavy breathing. You should be able to converse normally after a 15 minute brisk walk. If you are not able to, please select Level 1. If 15 minutes of brisk walking is not a problem, please select Level 2 or 3.

Today is the day you buy new shoes if you plan to wear them at Con. It’s also the day if you are buying compression leggings to do so.

LEVEL 1 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 3
  • Complete Self-Test
  • Good job! If you walked at a fast pace, you may have walked 3/4 of a mile!
  • Stretch out those muscles!
  • Complete Self-Test.
  • If you don’t regularly work out, but the self-test was not a problem, this is your best option.
  • Continue walking an additional 20 minutes at a brisk pace.
  • Total time walking today: 35 minutes.
  • If you walk 3 mph, you will have walked 1.75 miles!
  • Stretch out those muscles!
  • Complete Self-Test.
  • If you already work out regularly and want to go extreme, select this choice.
  • Continue walking an additional 30 minutes.
  • Total time walking today: 45 minutes.
  • KICK IT UP: Add one water bottle to a backpack and wear it during walk.
  • If you walk 3 mph you will have walked 2.25 miles!
  • Stretch out those muscles!

Keep an eye on how you felt today, you can always adjust. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself from over-exertion right before Con. You also want to avoid blisters as they take a while to heal. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY!)

DAY 2 – Spider-Man:

Spider-ManToday you get to channel your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! A young man of particular talents, Spidey is great at going up things. That’s what you’ll find yourself doing in the next little bit. Just remember as you go that you’ll occasionally need to run up and down stairs at Con and hopefully this will help get you where you need to be, better be safe than sorry.

We aren’t going to talk about it specifically going forward, but you should stretch your muscles after you complete each exercise task in the program from hereon out.

After all you never know when the Reavers may show up and you’ll have to get out of there in a hurry. Or just float on by and hope they don’t notice.

Great job this week! Check back next week for your next week’s worth of workouts to prep for San Diego Comic-Con 2015! Use hashtag #ComicConFIT and tag us (@comiccontips) and we may find some kind of prize to give you if you complete the entire challenge!

Until next week!

Please keep in mind, that without previous training, there is a low likelihood that a three week program will get you fully ready to walk 8 miles in a day. This program is intended and spread out to get your body used to moving somewhat and will hopefully help, but will not replace a long and rigorous training program intended to train someone to walk 8 miles per day.

Writer & Photographer at ComicCon.tips
Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
