Trailerpark Tuesday – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Powers

Powers-PlayStationPowers

Tim – [Warning: This video is age-gated because it’s based on a Mature show that will air on Playstation starting March 10. Nothing in this preview is particularly mature, however.] I think Powers has potential as a show. Because it’s airing on Playstation, I think that it will be able to be a little more mature and gritty like a Netflix show (as opposed to network TV). Powers is based on a series of comics from the early 2000s about a former superhero who has lost his powers but becomes a detective to investigate “powers” related crimes. The concept sounds really similar to the upcoming Netflix show A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Technically, Powers came out about a year before Jessica Jones first showed up in an Alias comic, but there could be a place for both shows in the world as long as they’re done well. I’ve got a Playstation 4 (and 3 and 2… I know, it’s a problem), so I’ll check this show out in a couple of weeks when it airs.

Trevor – The premise to Powers seems like a cool one. The main character, a super-powered dude, has lost his powers and now is struggling to help regulate the “Powers” that are out there. You can feel the guy’s despair through the screen and it has potential. They didn’t show us almost any intense footage, mostly hints at what the show will be. It will be difficult to watch for me since I don’t have Playstation Plus. I won’t be making any moves to be one of the first to see this show, but I’m curious about it. I’ll keep my ear to the ground and if it starts to get buzz, I may join in. We’ll see.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Tim – I don’t watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Perhaps someday I will get around to it, but I’ve heard that most of the first season isn’t great (I watched the first couple episodes and wasn’t impressed) and, as a completionist, I have a hard time just skipping ahead to the good stuff. However, seeing teasers like this that show that S.H.I.E.L.D. will be completing embracing it’s ties to Inhumans sparks my interest a little more. I’m excited for the upcoming Inhumans movie, even if it’s years away. It’s not a franchise I’m very familiar with, so S.H.I.E.L.D. might end up being the perfect introduction into that universe.

Trevor – Sometimes when I know the next episode will be a mid-season/season finale, I won’t watch it until right before the show comes back from hiatus. That’s what happened with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., until I saw this trailer. I was starting to get worried that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was going to start getting lame again, but with them turning Skye inhuman I think we’ll have some good things to look forward to. This trailer doesn’t show it, but I’m sure we’ll see Reina getting awesome too. Finally we’ll have an interesting main character! I hope this solves the pacing problems.

Quite frankly, Tim is a 17-year-old trapped in a 30-something-year-old’s body. He loves good TV – by which he means something with a good serialized storyline – and movies, and spends many of his nights immersed in a gloriously complex video game. He’s a firm believer that Lost was the greatest show ever made, and that includes the ending. Oh, and Tim is a staunch defender of the Ewoks and their place in the Star Wars canon. You can listen to Tim on the Whatever Makes You Weird podcast, check out his opinions about upcoming movies in our Trailerpark Tuesday segments, and find his reporting about cons and all things nerd-ish on Comic Con Tips.
