Trailerpark Tuesday- Big Hero 6, Kite, 12 Monkeys

Cortney- I think this looks like a lot of fun. I especially love the humor. I’m not familiar with the Marvel property this is based on, but based on Disney Animation’s recent success, they are on a roll, and hopefully this is another step in the right direction. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up seeing this one in the theater.

Trevor-Looks fun and inventive. They’ve only hinted at the real plot, but I think I’m already in. It’s a novel idea of having a robot made up of a balloon.. where the boy is a Tony Stark type who can create a robot out of nothing and is way smart. This sounds way fun.

Tim- I’m really excited about Big Hero 6. This new trailer sold me. I think it looks funny, Disney Animation movies tend to have a lot of heart, and the animation looks great. I think that this will be Disney’s next huge franchise and you’ll see merchandise everywhere. Definitely going to see it the first weekend.

Cortney- Once again, I’m not familiar with the property this is based on either. The visuals certainly look cool, but this trailer isn’t enough to get me on board. The story at this point still seems pretty generic. But I’ll keep my eye on any future trailers or marketing to see if this is something that gains momentum.

Trevor- I always thought that getting into Anime would be kind of fun and I feel like there’s a reserved section somewhere inside me that’s waiting for Anime to take it’s spot. So that makes me want to watch this show to see how into it I am. I’m a little nervous about production value though. Kite looks like they rented out an old building in New York and filmed the entire movie inside. I’m worried that I’m going to get so bored with the environment that I’ll lose interest in the plot. I’ll definitely RedBox this one.

Tim- This is most likely a case of style over substance. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of story, but based on the fact that this is coming from an anime property, the violence will probably be hyper-stylized and beautiful. So I’m initially not super excited, but 300 was all about style and I really liked that movie. Probably a rental.

Cortney- I’m a sucker for time travel stories, so already I’m interested. I also liked the “12 Monkeys” movie, although I understand the TV series won’t be following that same storyline. The problem is there is already so much good TV out there, that this will really have to stand out for me to add it to my already to big list and SyFy hasn’t really impressed me since “Battlestar Galactica.”

Trevor- This one isn’t really bringing anything new to the table. A guy goes back in time to change a destroyed future. We’ve seen this 100 times and will likely see it another 100. I like Zeljko Ivanek, but I’m not all the way sold on this. I don’t have regular cable and can’t see myself going out of my way to see this one.

Tim- Cortney and Trevor both have valid points. On the one hand, I love time travel and I thought the 12 Monkeys movie was a great movie that brought an unsettling darkness to the genre. However, I’m not sold yet on why we need to retell this story. Granted, there will be differences. But I’ll need to learn more before I’m really interested.

Quite frankly, Tim is a 17-year-old trapped in a 30-something-year-old’s body. He loves good TV – by which he means something with a good serialized storyline – and movies, and spends many of his nights immersed in a gloriously complex video game. He’s a firm believer that Lost was the greatest show ever made, and that includes the ending. Oh, and Tim is a staunch defender of the Ewoks and their place in the Star Wars canon.
