Trailerpark Tuesday – DawnOfApes, Constantine, Snow Piercer

Trailerpark Stack

Debuting this week: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Constantine and Snow Piercer

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Tim
I get more and more excited with each of these trailers. Word is that half of this movie takes place with just the apes, and I’m totally cool with that. I love the human actors that they’ve cast, but I want to see a movie like the originals that is about the apes and their society (but with a much lower cheese factor). Andy Serkis is amazing in everything that he does, but the detail of movement and expression in these CG apes is remarkable. This trailer not only gets me excited for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but also for Star Wars VII. Andy Serkis is a part of the new cast and the likelihood of him playing an awesome CG alien is pretty darn high.

It’s not a secret that I’m excited about this show. I really enjoyed the last movie and think I’ll likely enjoy this one. I did start to have doubt creep into my mind after watching this trailer… I’m a little bit nervous that I’m going to have a hard time caring about the Apes. Since it’s set a large amount from their perspective, this movie making it or breaking will hinge on whether Matt Reeves can make me care about their perspective. It’s a tough sell because it’s going to be humans vs animals, and I’m typically going to vote for our own personal survival. I’m excited to see this show and find out if I like it or not.

To be honest this trailer did nothing for me. I dislike the idea of Gary Oldman being the bad guy. Yes I know he’s done it before, but as shown in the trailer, his character looks very cliche. I’m so tired of one note bad guys. And I hope Jason Clarke can bring some charisma to his role, because once again, the trailer doesn’t show it. The only thing that seems interesting about this movie is the apes. Maybe that’s intentional. Hopefully the next trailer will make me more excited. Yawn.

Constantine

Tim
Typically, I’m not in to shows like this. I could be wrong, but it seems like it will a monster-of-the-week kind of show with an overall season arc that they occasionally touch on. I need a heavily serialized show like Lost, 24, Breaking Bad, or The Americans. However, I can willingly admit that the show looks really good. I’m so impressed by the production value that I’ve seen so far. This doesn’t look like a network TV show. And kudos to NBC for taking a chance on this. Geek culture is alive and strong! They’re dipping their toes into genre TV more and more often, but this is a combination of comics, fantasy, horror, comedy, and action. I hope that it does well for them. While it will likely not be my cup of tea, we need more shows like this.

An NBC TV series coming out this fall, based on the DC comic “Hellblazer”. Creepy. I’m not a huge horror genre guy, so I don’t know if I’ll get into this one. I do have to say though, it’s looking extremely well made. I’m very surprised to see this coming out on NBC. Not only because this looks to be a show only available on networks like HBO, but also the production value on this one looks extremely high. NBC, in my eyes, has put out a lot of snoozers, but has been gaining a lot of traction lately. Especially when it released the Blacklist last year. I’m guessing we’ll see a LOT about this show at San Diego Comic Con this year. Expect them to hit the advertising on this one pretty hard.

This is a new TV show coming out on NBC this fall after “Grimm.” Seems like it could be a good fit with that show. The trailer definitely looks intriguing but it also seems like it’s all over the place. If the show can find a focus (and maybe it has, it’s only a trailer) I think it could have potential. The trailer also reminds me a lot of the last few seasons of “Supernatural.” I enjoy a good hell battle, but don’t know that need several shows with that theme. thought the Keanu Reeves movie of several years ago had potential as well, but never really worked for me. If this gets some good reviews, I’ll certainly check it out.

Snowpiercer

RED-BAND TRAILER – 18+ and older only

Tim
Interesting. I like the super-dark, gritty vibe and Chris Evans moved several levels up the cool ladder after Captain America 2. There’s a good chance that this movie isn’t opening wide and most of us will only see it on Redbox, but I’d be willing to give it a chance. I need a pure testosterone movie every once in a while to keep me strong.

Trevor
This movie looks… ok. Chris Evans will hopefully make it awesome. It looks intense and has a bit of a polarizing premise. I’m interested, but can’t say that I’m excited. It’s a little more gory than I usually like, but they did do an awesome job of making me want to punch that lady in the face, so it has that. Could be good, I’m interested to see more trailers.

Not sure what to think about this trailer. The action sequences look good and the cast looks great, but nothing I saw made me want to run and see it. From what I understand this has already come out overseas and been popular. But I guess we’ll be getting a cut of the movie that eliminates about 20 minutes. That doesn’t get me excited either. Guess I’ll keep an eye out to see what the response in the U.S. is to this movie.

Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
