Trailerpark Tuesday – Guardians, Video Games, Ragnarok

Trailerpark Tuesday

Let’s talk about Guardians of the Galaxy, Video Games: The Movie and Ragnarok

Guardians of the Galaxy (UK)

Tim
Typically, we don’t use new trailers for movies we’ve already talked about. But this new international trailer is so different in tone from the the trailers we’ve already seen that we had to talk about it. A few jokes still stand out, but the feel is much more serious and epic. Personally, I enjoy the more rogue-ish feel of the previous trailers. But we did get to see a few new things here, particularly involving Rocket Raccoon. I think the movie looks, and Rocket himself is going to be a hot property going forward.

Cortney
Although I prefer the first two trailers, the International Trailer for this only ups my excitement. From the backstory of Star Lord to more footage of Rocket Raccoon, I like what this trailer shows. Really hope this one is as cool as it looks. I think it could be difficult to nail down the tone, but if they do it, it could be awesome. Counting the days to this one.

Trevor
I like this new trailer. Where the previous trailers I’ve seen have eluded to storyline, this one lets you know why you should care. Every time Guardians comes up in conversation, I’ve had mixed feelings. As in, I don’t know the comics so I don’t know how much I’m going to care. But then I look at footage and I can’t help but think how much production value has increased even in the past 10 years. I’m in. This looks fun.

Video Games: The Movie

Tim
I’m really, really excited for this movie. I love love love video games and this is totally the kind of movie where fans will constantly be saying, “Oh, I know that game!” or “I remember that!” It’s exec produced by Zach Braff so there will be a level of professionalism and credibility to the documentary. It looks like he’s pulled together some visionary developers and celebrities with geek credibility. I’ll definitely watch this one.

Cortney
This looks like it could be cool, but I’m worried that it won’t be able to go in to much depth on anything because they are trying to cover so much. I mean you could make a movie just on the history of the Mario Bros or Zelda. Here’s hoping that they can delve deeper that just a cursory glance at the history of video games.

Trevor
I swear I didn’t read Cortney’s post until I had formed an opinion, but I agree completely. I love good documentaries. They need to show depth that I couldn’t have found easily on your own. If it just shows the surface evolution of gaming and a prediction, I’ll be disappointed.. because I’ve already seen the surface evolution of gaming over the past 30 years. If it shows some of the awesome behind the scenes stuff that goes into making and launching a game, it could be cool.

Ragnarok

Tim
A perfect late night with friends movie. Lake Placid meets The Descent. There will always be a place in my heart for these lower budget, cheesy sci-fi, ideal for rental movies. I can’t promise I’ll see it, but if I do, it will be a party movie.

Cortney
I’m not sure why we’re previewing what looks like an awful direct to DVD movie, but that’s exactly what this looks like. I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll never think of this movie again after I finish this sentence.

Trevor
This looks to have a National Treasure with dinosaurs feel to it. Could be ok. I doubt I see this in theater, but I may watch it on Netflix when it gets there. I agree with the YouTube comments though that the narration didn’t fit very well.

Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
