STAR WARS: REBELS

Tim
Last weekend, both WonderCon and Salt Lake Comic Con featured panels about Star Wars: Rebels, the new animated series that will air on Disney XD later this year. However, WonderCon was able to get some of the creators of the show and was treated to a new clip featuring the character Hera. We’ve heard that the tone of the show will be a little more about fun and adventure rather than the darker and more somber feel of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni (Executive Producer on Rebels) has commented that they are aiming for the spirit of the original Star Wars movies. Personally, I’m anxious to see Rebels. With The Clone Wars, Filoni and his team demonstrated that they’ve got the chops to pull off exciting action and stories that are worthy of their movie heritage. Also, the animation style in Rebels has been tweaked a bit since Clone Wars and I think I prefer the new style. The goofiness and humor doesn’t always appeal to me, but I realize that this is a Disney show that is ultimately aimed at kids. But more serious elements are not off the table. We’ll see where the story takes us. I’m hoping that this is a show that my children and I can enjoy together.

That’s it for today. We’re busy putting together our content from Salt Lake Comic Con. Check back with us each day for panel recaps, cosplay photos, overall impressions, and more!

Quite frankly, Tim is a 17-year-old trapped in a 30-something-year-old’s body. He loves good TV – by which he means something with a good serialized storyline – and movies, and spends many of his nights immersed in a gloriously complex video game. He’s a firm believer that Lost was the greatest show ever made, and that includes the ending. Oh, and Tim is a staunch defender of the Ewoks and their place in the Star Wars canon. You can listen to Tim on the Whatever Makes You Weird podcast, check out his opinions about upcoming movies in our Trailerpark Tuesday segments, and find his reporting about cons and all things nerd-ish on Comic Con Tips.
