Trailerpark Tuesday – Video Games

Trailerpark Tycoon

In honor of E3, this week we present some upcoming video games: Zelda, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Dead Island, Dragon Age, Evolve and Captain Toad

Legend of Zelda Wii U

Tim
Time to buy a Wii U! My goodness. An open world Zelda game sounds amazing. You have to get to about the 3 minutes mark before you start to see just a hint at gameplay, but this game looks amazing. The art style is reminiscent of Skyward Sword which had a watercolor feel to it. I have loved these games since the beginning and I can’t wait to play it in HD.

Trevor
I’m with Tim. The ONLY reason that I’ve ever owned a Wii is for Zelda. This new world looks awesome to explore, and while they really only hinted a little at the action we’ll see I couldn’t wait to see what the monster play was like even in the trailer. I don’t have a Wii U yet, but this may just tempt me enough to get there.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Tim
This trailer was more of a teaser but it still got me excited. Naughty Dog is one of the best publishers out there, particularly when it comes to cinematic action/adventure games. Nathan Drake is such a great character and the level of detail in this video is astounding. I’ve already got a PS4, so this is definitely a day 1 purchase.

Trevor
I’ve got to admit it, I’m getting old. I don’t have as much time to dedicate towards game play as I would like, but this teaser really does a great job to show you how far graphics have come in the past 20 years. The PS4 is my next purchase, I’ll put this at the top of the list of stuff to try out when I do. And what’s with those body cages and pirate-type thing!? I love pirates! Well, maybe not real pirates.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Tim
I have loved this series since the beginning. The last game, a reboot of the franchise, was really, really good. It had clearly a lot of things from Uncharted (which, to be fair, had learned a lot from early Tomb Raider). The game was full of awesome action set pieces, but there really wasn’t a lot of tombs being raided. Developers have promised to bring back the tombs while still maintaining the cinematic feel and sense of exploration. This is a must own for me.

Trevor
I struggle a little bit with the Tomb Raider games. I like the idea of what’s going on… a female version of Indiana Jones, what’s not to like? I like the Lara Croft character a lot. The problem is that I’ve struggled with actually caring about the game play. Where this trailer doesn’t show any actual game-play, just opening sequences that everyone knows is basically an animated movie.. I don’t feel like I can make a call on if this one is going to be different for me. I guess I just don’t feel like the past ones have felt like real puzzlers to me. I’ll likely skip this one.

Dead Island 2

Tim
Even if you’re not into the whole zombie thing, there’s no denying that this trailer is just fun. The first game shook things up a bit by being a first person melee game, but the setting was a beach resort. The juxtaposition of the bright, beautiful beach and the horrible masses of zombies was interesting if anything. I can’t say that this is something I’ll buy, but I’ll probably give it a try.

Trevor
LOL. Ok, you’ve seen my previous reviews of movies and shows that are zombie related and know it’s not my scene. That being said, you have to admit that this trailer is clever and quite entertaining. Good music choice and funny premise. I may rent this one just because of that.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Tim
One of the most anticipated games of this new generation. Few studios do story as well as Bioware. This newest trailer shows us a little more about the characters which is a huge part of these games. The series is as much about relationships as it is about combat and exploration. And it looks beautiful.

Trevor
This is a series I’m not familiar with. I’m into the fantasy scene and looks kind of a mix between Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, so for that reason, it could be fun. But beyond that.. the clips they showed had genuine choppiness in it. I’m a little leery, but am curious to see what else I hear in the future.

Evolve

Tim
What a cool idea. 4 vs 1 gameplay is fairly unique, but having distinct classes and playing as the monster seems like each game will be different. I had heard about the game, but this was the first time I’d seen it in action. The cthulu-style monster looks great. An interesting take on multiplayer that isn’t just another military shooter.

Trevor
This seems an interesting take on a game. You can pick your class, including the protagonist. I’m a big fan of well made multi-player games and this sounds like it could be an awesome one. From what I’ve read this one looks like a 4 player cooperative battle against a fifth human controlled monster. That aspect sounds very fun. My biggest concern here is depth. This trailer doesn’t show anything beyond that one battle, so I’m hoping that when you’re playing alone this one isn’t a stinker.

Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker

Tim
This is a new IP for Nintendo. It reminds me of Luigi’s Mansion meets Mario Galaxy. A cute game I can play with my kids. Between this, Zelda, Mario Party 10, Star Fox, and a few other Nintendo announcements, they might have won me over again.

Trevor
This looks to be a cute fun game. I’m liking how much this game has the feel of old classic games, just built in 3D. I’m personally not going to spend tons of time on this game myself, but my kids are going to love it. I bet I don’t hear about much else once this happens at my house.

Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
