What I learned from #SDCC 2015 PreRegistration

2015 SDCC Pre-Registrationrunning2The 2015 San Diego Comic-Con Pre-Registration has begun! This article is likely not going to be crazy-helpful for someone pre-registering today. But if you plan to register for SDCC next spring, this event is a good predictor to how it will go.

8:15AM PT, So far, you can only queue up. SDCC will have emailed you an entrance link to get into the EPIC waiting room by 9:00 AM PT. You should have done all your pre-check work including signing up for a member id. If you’re at pre-reg, you also need to have your badge id.

Some questions I’ve been seeing so far on Twitter:

Q: Can I use multiple browsers to register?
A: You can use ONE browser per Member ID. So you can’t use multiple browsers for yourself, but if a member of your group cannot attend the registration session, you can use a different browser to login for them and give you a bit of a leg-up.

Q: Can I use different credit cards for each badge I’m going to purchase (for other members of my group)?
A: No. You have to use only one credit card for your entire transaction.

8:25AM PT, The EPIC waiting room is producing lots of snarky banners teasing all who wait. I’ll post several throughout today’s article.

Welcome to the EPIC waiting room! It takes the average person 15-20 minutes to read a 22-page comic book. That means you can enjoy Batman: Court of Owls before Attendee Registration begins at 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time.

Everything is awesome! Except waiting. Now that you have authorized your badge ID to enter the EPIC waiting room, please feel free to return to this page 10 – 15 minutes before 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. There is no advantage in arriving early. Attendees will be selected at random for their registration sessions.

9:33AM PT,
My laptop just went to sleep. A quick TIP, change your power settings and disable your screen saver so your computer doesn’t go to sleep during this process. The results once you’re in the final waiting room could be catastrophic!

There are some awesome people out there on Twitter getting ready! Here are some of our favorites!

We estimate that a fully functional Death Star with heated leather seats would take about 21 years to complete. That is a lot more time than you will need to wait today! We appreciate your patience and will start the sale shortly after 9:00 AM PST.

You’ve arrived at the EPIC waiting room. Badge sales will begin shortly after 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. Remember, as long as the blue circle is spinning your page is active and everything will be okay! Well, unless Ultron finds you first. Then no one can save you. Not even Thor.

8:45AM PT: 15 minutes until go time! Get that last minute pee out of the way or you’ll be squirming soon!

Whew! It’s getting crowded in here but please remember there’s no need to shove. You’ll be placed in groups at random shortly after 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, so be nice to your neighbor and remember we’re all in this together!

You have reached the EPIC waiting room. Badge sales will launch shortly after 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. It is very important that you do not refresh this page at 9:00 AM PST! We will update you with a message once the sale has begun.

It is almost time to begin the sale. Please be patient while the Sorting Hat does its job. Do not hit the refresh button! If the blue circle is spinning, this page is automatically refreshing every 120 seconds.

9:00AM PT – The sorting hat is doing it’s job and we’ll soon be in queue.

I have been hearing rumors that you will only have 5 minutes to complete your transaction once you have given the chance to buy badges!

Remember, do not refresh this page or open another tab/window of the waiting room. Patience will be your best strategy for success! This yellow message box will keep you updated.

9:06 AM PT

We are randomly assigning groups, please give us some time … May the odds be ever in your favor!

9:07 AM PT

We are letting groups of people into their registration sessions slowly to ensure that the system is running efficiently. We will continue to update you here with any changes.

9:10 AM PT – I’m hearing rumors that there are people getting in and checking out already.

I’m switching to grey backgrounds for the yellow status updates, because the yellow ones take longer to post!

Buying for others? It’s a good idea to verify that you have the correct spelling of everyone’s last name and Member ID before you begin!

9:12 AM PT – Some people are buying!!

9:13 AM PT – Ugh, I hate this part. Always wondering if I’m going to make it or not. BUTTERFLIES!

Badge inventory is being monitored very closely. We will update you when a badge type is running low or sold out.

The waiting room is moving customers to their registration session every 120 seconds. If you are selected for a registration session, make sure to have your Member ID, last name, and credit card number ready!

9:19 AM PT

Preview Night inventory is running low and may be sold out before you begin your online registration session.

9:24 AM PT

We’re sorry, but the option to purchase Preview Night has sold out. But don’t worry badges are still available for four other fabulous days of Comic-Con 2015!

9:26 AM PT

Although you can’t see it, rest assured that we are moving people randomly into registration sessions every 120 seconds. Please do not refresh this page or open another tab/window of the waiting room.

 9:28 AM PT

If you missed Preview Night or another day during Pre-Registration, you can try and pick up the missed days at Open Registration early next year!

 9:29 AM PT

Is your blue circle spinning? That graphic lets you know that your page is active and you will begin your registration session if you are randomly selected.

9:33 AM PT

Barcode registration confirmation emails to be sent out in 72 hours. If you have problems once you’re in shopping cart, TAKE SCREENSHOTS! CCI will often be able to help you with your problem if you can prove that you’ve had one!

9:34 AM PT

Thank you for your patience. Customers are completing their badge purchases and you will be moved to a registration session if you are selected.

9:36 AM PT

It looks like Saturday badge inventory is running low, we promise to keep you updated. Thank you for your patience while you wait.

9:39 AM PT

We apologize, but Friday and Saturday badges are sold out. Please select another badge type when you begin your registration session, or exit the waiting room to allow another attendee a chance to purchase a badge.

9:40 AM PT – Finally got in to purchase, only Thursday and Sunday are available. There is a 15 minute window, despite previous rumors of only 5 minutes.

9:47 AM PT

Although there are not enough badges for everyone participating in today’s sale, there will be an additional badge sale at a later date!
 9:49 AM PT
Comic-Con 2015 badges have sold out! If you were unable to purchase your desired badge type today, you may be able to participate in Open Online Registration early next year. We thank all of your for your patronage and support! For more information, please visit: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/purchase-badges

So that’s a wrap. Everything is done! Kind of sad, our group only got 2 days, but we’ll try again at Open Registration and hopefully get more. The consolation prize is that NerdHQ rocks and there are plenty of off-site events to attend during those days if we can’t score the remaining two days. It’ll be awesome either way!

Trevor began his forray into nerdom as a kid peddling his bike all the way to the local bookstore to purchase comic books. The boring superhero comics weren’t good enough for Trevor, he wanted the real ones. The ones with ducks. Now who's laughing while he’s on his way to cash in all those valuable Ducktales comics. Soon he’ll have his own money bin full to the brim. These days, to fill the time before the money bin construction completes (and begins), Trevor fills his time with photography, movies, television and comic book conventions. You can find his cosplay Meet & Greet mini-shoot and articles on this site as well as prints of his photographs being sold by cosplayers throughout the land.

P.S. Trevor converted to Marvel & DC comics and movies later on, so no heartburn on that one, right?
